The Trial of Derek Bentley and Christopher Craig Essay Example

The Trial of Derek Bentley and Christopher Craig Essay Example The Trial of Derek Bentley and Christopher Craig Paper The Trial of Derek Bentley and Christopher Craig Paper Article Topic: Film I think the discourse for the arraignment is powerful in light of the fact that it in a manner persuades that Craig and Bentley are similarly as blameworthy as one another, which isnt essentially obvious. The discourse is shrewdly composed by having forgotten about certain perhaps essential snippets of data, for example, Bentleys mental age of 11, which implies others can without much of a stretch impact him, for example, Craig. I dont think this was brought up as it could have been misconstrued as marginally supporting Bentleys activities, which wouldnt have been reasonable in court and furthermore the cops wouldnt have needed any data to be said that may in any capacity work to Bentleys advantage as they accept he was certainly engaged with the homicide of their partner. In view of the discourse alone I get an unmistakable impression about the two litigants, Bentley and Craig. To me Bentley seemed to be an individual with horrendous purpose because of the weapons he had and his later permission to expecting to break into the structure and take what he could. The discourse suggests Bentley being exceptionally engaged with the shooting since he knew Craig had a firearm yet anyway as yet being a devotee instead of a pioneer as he didnt really complete the shooting yet had a major impact by yelling Let him have it, Chris. This area of the discourse containing data about this announcement by Bentley I advised the senseless bugger not to utilize it Was not so much reasonable in light of the fact that it says Completely negated by Bentleys before articulation, Let him have it Chris which infers that he had intended for Craig too shoot the weapon. This anyway isnt the main clarification for Bentley yelling this expression. He could have intended for Craig to let the official have the weapon yet this isnt expressed in the discourse thus neutralizes Bentley. My impression of Craig straight away is that he is in actuality a powerless individual who couldnt face the discipline for his own wrong doing in light of the fact that when he understood he would have been gotten by the police he hurled himself off the rooftop trying to end it all and abstain from condemning. As the discourse proceeds Craig appears to be an insolent and inconsiderate individual as it is expressed that there was a ton of swearing and harsh language spoken or yelled by him at the cops. Resentful was likewise a word that came into view about Craig where it proceeds to state about him taking shots at PC Harrison as he crawled along. From the discourse I discovered that Craig and Bentley were 2 youthful guys who had set out just to break into Barlow Parker Confectioners yet wound up in a gunfight on the rooftop including 4 cops, one of which (PC Miles) was executed. The possibility of Bentley helping Craig is kind of negated later in light of the fact that when Bentley is formally in custody the evening of the shooting he was not truly being held by Sgt Fairfax thus had numerous chances to get away or sneak up on Fairfax to harm him, anyway Bentley didn't perceive these open doors not to mention use them. This instructed me that Bentley must be unintelligent without a doubt or possibly simply terrified however whichever way he didnt take the risk accessible to him, as he would have done in the event that he had set out with purpose to unshakably harm or murder the PCs. Craig is by all accounts a dependable companion according to Bentley and he accepts what Craig lets him know. This is appeared in the discourse when it depicts Sgt Fairfax and Bentley endeavoring and effectively getting themselves to the wellbeing of an entryway and Bentley tells Sgt Fairfax Hell shoot you. Clearly Bentley truly accepted this and has confidence in his companion to assist him with getting away yet additionally the idea doesnt enter his thoughts that Craig may even go to the degree of shooting at Bentley himself in endeavor to harm Sgt Fairfax and help his (Craigs) own escape. This again shows his character is anything but difficult to exploit. I additionally took in a decent lot about the character of Christopher Craig subsequent to perusing the discourse. He is a commanding male who is gazed upward to and regarded by his friends, Bentley specifically. This is appeared by the way that Bentley even went with him that night to accomplish something that he knew wasn't right and wouldnt have longed for doing before he met Craig. Despite the fact that Craig can't peruse or compose he is smart in a strategic manner with his moves, for example he exploited Bentleys youngster similarity and quietly convinced him to convey guarded weapons by offering them to Bentley as a blessing which he knew Bentley would love and convey with him in want to think not to lose them. Close to the furthest limit of the discourse it is found out that Craigs activities were in truth a technique for him to in a manner take care of the police power for placing his sibling in prison. These activities do anyway show dependability and furthermore draw out a marginally mindful (for his sibling), defenseless side to Craig. Craig shrouds this side of his character behind a mass of insolence which he appears in the following breath by swearing at the moving toward Police Officer and saying he trusted he had slaughtered the part. In the wake of perusing the discourse once I promptly felt no compassion or empathy for both of the litigants, Craig and Bentley. Anyway after re-adding the discourse and looking further to a portion of the areas I started to feel frustrated about them two of every a path yet for various reasons. I felt Bentley had been utilized essentially as an associate and back up for Craig at whatever point he required it. This caused me to feel awful for Bentley in light of the fact that he truly thought he had made a companion and didnt acknowledge he had been utilized. The discourse later statements Bentley was himself outfitted to that degree and, in this manner, arranged to utilize brutality. Which as I would like to think wasnt valid. As both of the weapons were given to Bentley by Craig, I think it was another plan of Craigs to make Bentley look as liable if not more liable than himself so perhaps he wouldnt get as brutally rebuffed. This comment is likewise working absolutely against Bentley in the manner that he didnt and most likely couldnt contend back in light of the fact that he was as apprehensive as a multi year old would be, yet again the jury didnt consider. Bentley is by all accounts a befuddled individual that regularly cannot get out the correct words for what he needs to state and later winds up negating himself. This is appeared in the segment of the discourse where it explains Bentleys articulation. It is said that while in the squad car while in transit to the station Bentley said I realized he had a weapon; however I didnt figure he would utilize it. Also, in Bentleys genuine articulation he again confesses to knowing about Craigs ownership of the weapon by saying I didn't realize he was going to utilize the firearm. Close to the furthest limit of the announcement be that as it may, Bentley gets confounded and says I didn't have a weapon and I didnt know Chris had one until he shot Although Crai g was subtle and mean in the manner he controlled Bentley I despite everything felt frustrated about him in spite of the fact that in an alternate manner. The main thing that causes me to feel along these lines was Craigs dedication to his sibling. He more likely than not realized he would get into a great deal of difficulty by terminating at a cop however he clearly felt slanted to do as such, so the police wouldnt pull off removing his sibling. There more likely than not been incredible arrangement of dedication between the kin for one to go to such outrageous measures. I started to feel tragic for Craig because of the reality he more likely than not understood the power of his activities when it was past the point where it is possible to fix what had been done and he wanted to endeavor self destruction to keep away from discipline. I didnt feel tragic as a result of Craigs wounds but since he went as far as the degree of not having the option to acknowledge the cold hard truth for his own activities is an exceptionally pitiful act. Video Case As I examined the video case to the film Let him have it the principal thing I was attracted to taking a gander at was the captivating title. It is written in enormous essential, simple to understand textual style and is very attractive, as it is really the title text of a paper utilized for the title. The way that piece of a paper is remembered for the case underscores the way that the story is valid and it included genuine individuals. Again acquiring authenticity is the statement by Iris Bentley (Derek Bentleys Mum) saying I dont need vengeance I simply need equity. The textual style utilized for this statement is plain and uncovered so the correct impression is radiated. For instance if the letters were all swirly and antiquated it would propose a fantasy like story, which would be misdirecting. The foundation of the case is dark, which to me inferred a shocking and disastrous film. Situated at the base of the title page of the case is the picture of Bentley and Craig both wearing regular crowd garments for the time it was set. This mentions to you what the film will be about however doesnt part with such a large number of subtleties and along these lines you are charmed to watch it. The paper surveys are likewise fantastic as they praise the film and make you that smidgen progressively inquisitive about the storyline, The Independent The hanging. one of the most shocking scenes in British film This statement tells you that the preliminary leads one of the respondents to be hung yet doesnt insight to which one thus leaves it open to intrigue. The Mail Powerful Daily Mail Powerful and convincing Both of these two audits disclose to you that the film is ground-breaking, however do they mean amazing in the way that it will leave an effect on you intellectually for example you might need to offer your help to groups of the characters in question or incredible in another sense? The best way to discover is too watch it. The general impact of the video case persuades you are going to watch a wrongdoing film. This is featured in the picture of Craig more than Bentley because of his abhorrent grin and the position he is holding a weapon. The word murder is referenced in the ad spot which clearly likewise suggests wrongdoing. The case is all around set out as it gives enough data about the film to get you intrigued and charmed yet doesnt give as well

Ghana, the mixed capitalist Essay

Gold Coast, presently Ghana had his autonomy in 1957 after a long battle with our frontier experts, the British by Kwame Nkrumah and other people who helped in various manners, for example, â€Å"the Big Six† and others. Colonized by the British, Ghana has experienced a great deal of frameworks of administration; Monarchical, absolutism and now majority rule government. So is with monetary frameworks which go with any type of administration framework. Right now there are around four (4) financial frameworks on the planet which are; communist, industrialist, blended economy (Socialist and Capitalist) and Islamic monetary statute. The Economic Systems All these are monetary frameworks and it is characterizes the individuals who controls and claims the financial assets which shapes the â€Å"means† in financial matters. Each economy is estimated by the use of its methods and the idea of the â€Å"means† proprietors decides the sort of financial framework the nation runs. Communist arrangement of economy is a one that has its assets profoundly constrained by the focal government. E. g. USSR (Russia, Ukraine, Yugoslavia and so on), the Capitalist economy is that whose assets is profoundly possessed and constrained by private people or a body other than the administration. E. g. USA, UK, some portion of Europe and so forth. The Mixed economy is what joins both the communist and the entrepreneur monetary frameworks to run the country’s economy. In that, the focal government controls some portion of the economy whiles the other part is constrained by private investment. Elements of the Economic Systems There are various parts to financial frameworks. Their communication might be lucid or bring about insecurity. Dynamic structures of an economy decide the utilization of financial information sources (the components of creation), dissemination of yield, the degree of centralization in dynamic, and who settles on these choices. Choices may be done by mechanical boards, by an administration organization, or by private proprietors. Each monetary framework speaks to an endeavor to tackle three central and associated issues: What products and enterprises will be delivered and in what amounts? In what capacity will merchandise and enterprises be created? That is, by whom and with what assets and innovations? For whom will products and ventures be created? That is, who is to appreciate the advantages of the merchandise and ventures and how is the all out item to be dispersed among people and gatherings in the general public. E. g. the present burden the board by the VRA and the ECG. In this way every economy is a framework that assigns assets for trade, creation, dispersion and utilization. The framework is balanced out through a mix of risk and trust, which are the result of institutional courses of action. A monetary framework has the accompanying foundations: Methods of command over the elements or methods for creation: this may incorporate responsibility for, property rights to, the methods for creation and in this manner may offer ascent to cases to the returns from creation. The methods for creation might be claimed secretly, by the state, by the individuals who use them or be held in like manner. A dynamic framework: this figures out who is qualified to settle on choices over monetary exercises. Monetary specialists with dynamic forces can go into restricting agreements with each other. A coordination component: this decides how data is gotten and utilized in dynamic. The two prevailing types of coordination are arranging and markets; arranging can be either de-brought together or concentrated, and the two coordination systems are not fundamentally unrelated and frequently coincide. A motivator framework: this initiates and inspires monetary specialists to take part in profitable exercises. It very well may be founded on either material prize (remuneration or personal responsibility) or good suasion (for example, social distinction or through a vote based dynamic procedure that ties those included). The motivation framework may empower specialization and the division of work. Authoritative structure: there are two fundamental types of association: on-screen characters and controllers. Financial on-screen characters incorporate families, work posses and creation groups, firms, joint-adventures and cartels. Financially regulative associations are spoken to by the state and market specialists; the last may private or open elements. A dispersion framework: this allots the returns from beneficial action, which is appropriated as salary among the monetary associations, people and gatherings inside society, for example, land owners, laborers and non-laborers, or the state (from charges). An open decision component for law-production, building up rules, standards and principles and demanding assessments. Typically this is the duty of the state however different methods for aggregate dynamic are conceivable, for example, workers’ boards. The Ghana’s Economy Ghana’s economy is absolutely a blended sort in with the assets forcefully partitioned between people in general and private interest. The administration division is exceptionally constrained by the legislature while the creation segment is overwhelmed by private and gathering interest. Dynamic, which decides the course of the economy and the sort framework, is done a ton of the occasions, through counsels with partners of the economy. Model; when the force and water organizations needed to audit utility duties to a specific rate, there was a great deal of interviews along these lines; getting the rate we have now. Ghana, before the autonomy was absolutely entrepreneur. After autonomy, the then government concentrated on transforming the economy into a socialist/communist framework. They put such a great amount in farming which was the main division constrained by the administration and furthermore contacted industrialize the economy. At present, Ghana is blessed by the gods with characteristic assets and agribusiness represents approximately one-fourth of GDP and utilizes the greater part of the workforce, basically little landholders. The administrations segment represents half of GDP. Gold and cocoa creation and individual settlements are significant wellsprings of remote trade. Oil creation at Ghana’s seaward Jubilee field started in mid-December, 2010, and is required to support financial development. At last, I may concur with the announcement yet require more realities to totally legitimize its fact. Ghana is a blended economy yet entrepreneur arranged on the face evaluation estimation of the different divisions. In any case, can legitimize, if all rates of open/private interest of the financial parts are all around characterized. This will couple with the away from course of the current governments which has state on record as being social democrats and has manifestoes looking to give a great deal to the individuals.

Essay The Central Question of Hamlet - 2409 Words

The Central Question of Hamlet Hamlets tragedy is a tragedy of failure-the failure of a man placed in critical circumstances to deal successfully with those circumstances. In some ways, Hamlet reminds us of Brutus in Shakespeares Julius Caesar. Hamlet and Brutus are both good men who live in trying times; both are intellectual, even philosophical; both men want to do the right thing; both men intellectualize over what the right thing is; neither man yields to passion. But here the comparison ends, for though both Brutus and Hamlet reflect at length over the need to act, Brutus is able immediately to act while Hamlet is not. Hamlet is stuck thinking too precisely on th event-. Hamlets father, the king of Denmark, has†¦show more content†¦(Act 5, scene 2 . . . to Horatio) Yet he delays. It is this delay in performing the act he has sworn to accomplish which leads to Hamlets death. The poison on the tip of Laertes sword is but a metaphor for the poison of procrastination which has been coursing through Hamlets system throughout the play. Hamlets thoughts focus upon death rather than upon action. His words show an intense longing for death: O that this too too solid flesh would melt Thaw and resolve itself into a dew, Or that the everlasting had not fixed His canon gainst self-slaughter. (Act I, scene 2) In Act 3, Scene 1 Hamlet restates this theme: To be, or not to be, that is the question- The answer eludes Hamlet throughout the play, perhaps because it is the wrong question. Hamlet is alive and to be alive means to do, not merely to be. It is his inability to do, his tendency to reflect rather than to act which poisons Hamlets resolve and causes his tragic death. If the central question of the play is Why doesnt Hamlet kill Claudius immediately upon hearing the ghosts accusation? the easiest answer is that if Hamlet had done so, the play would have ended in Act I. And then Hamlet, Prince of Denmark would be a tragedy of plot management. In his 1904 work Shakespearean Tragedy,* A. C. understending cloud computing Essays - Cloud Computing,

Understanding cloud computing: Cloud computing represents a major change in how we store digital information and run computer applications. Instead of running programs and storing data on an individual desktop computer, everything is hosted in the "cloud" an assemblage of computers and servers accessed via the Internet. Our applications and documents are in the process of moving from the desktop into what experts call the cloud thousands of computers and servers, all linked together and accessible via the Internet. With cloud computing, everything we used to do on our desktop computer is now done over the web; we can access all our programs and documents from any computer that's connected to the Internet. How does cloud computing work and how will it affect the way we work? The software programs we use are stored computer we own. The documents we create are stored on the computer on which they were created. And, although documents can be accessed from other computers on a network, they can't be accessed by computers outside the network. With cloud computing, the software programs we use aren't run from our personal computer, but are rather stored on servers housed elsewhere and accessed via the Internet. If our individual computer crashes, the software is still available for others to use. The same goes for the documents we create; they're stored on a collection of servers accessed via the Internet. Anyone with permission can not only access the documents, but can also edit and collaborate on those documents in real time. The applications and data served by the cloud are available to a broad group of users using different operating system platforms; access is via the Internet. Any authorized user can access these docs and apps from any computer over any Internet connection, using the common web browser. It isn't apparent whether cloud services are based on HTTP, HTML, XML, JavaScript, or other specific technologies; to the user, the technology and infrastructure behind the cloud is invisible. In short, cloud computing enables a shift from the computer to the user, from applications to tasks, and from isolated data to data that can be accessed from anywhere and shared with anyone. The user no longer has to take on the task of data management; he doesn't even have to remember where the data is. All that matters is that the data is in the cloud, and thus immediately available to that user and to other authorized users. Inside the Cloud: How Cloud Computing Works? In cloud computing, a network of computers functions as a single computer to serve data and applications to users over the Internet. The network exists in the "cloud" of IP addresses that we know as the Internet, offers massive computing power and storage capability, and enables wide-scale group collaboration. Simply, the cloud is a collection of computers and servers that are publicly accessible via the Internet. This hardware is typically owned and operated by a third party in one or more data center locations. The machines can run any combination of operating systems; it's the processing power of the machines that matter, not what their desktops look like. Individual users connect to the cloud from their own personal computers or portable devices. To these individual users, the cloud is seen as a single application, device, or document. The hardware in the cloud is invisible .This cloud architecture is deceptively simple, although it does require some intelligent management to con nect all those computers together and assign task processing to multitudes of users. Understanding Cloud Storage One of the primary uses of cloud computing is for offsite data storage. With cloud storage, data is stored on multiple third-party servers, rather than on the dedicated servers used in traditional networked data storage. When storing data, the user sees a virtual server?that is, it appears as if the data is stored in a particular place with a specific name. But that place doesn't exist in reality; it's just a pseudonym used to reference virtual space carved out of the cloud. In reality, the user's data could be stored on any one or more of the computers used to create the cloud. The actual storage location may differ from day to day or even minute

The White House and its Machinations in Latin & South Americ essays

The White House and its Machinations in Latin & South Americ essays The White House and its Machinations South of United States Borders I look forward to a great future for Americaa future in which our country will match its military strength with our moral restraint, its wealth with our wisdom, its power with our purpose. America was established not to create wealth but to realize a vision, to realize an idealto discover and maintain liberty among men. The United States government and its branches have throughout history ignored the meaning of these quotes, just as it has ignored human rights violations in the interest of capitalism. In Nicaragua a major anti-socialist group was committing atrocities: Rape, starvation, and disciplinary tethering were tortures that new contra recruits were forced to endure. The contras were supported unconditionally by Washington and trained by the C. I. A. In Chile the Pinochet military junta murdered thousands of Allendes supporters. The regime was backed fully by the White House. Over the course of the past century and a half, economic and strategic interests were put above all moral and ethical priorities when involved in foreign countries. This nations leaders consistently express pride in the rights to freedom and justice, yet have exemplified the perfect contrary through the governments behavior in Cuba, Chile, Panama, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. The hypocrisies and lies perpetrated by the American government were extensive and deleterious to its good name, and the actions taken by this notorious government were crippling to our Latin American neighbors. Take, for example, Cuba. This island country has had a history of Communism, even under Batista, ruler before Fidel Castro came to power. He had appointed to his cabinet the first avowed Communist ever to serve in any Western government. (Smith, 316) However, Cuba has been a target of American hostility ever since Castro took power. Operation Management Concepts Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words - 1

Operation Management Concepts - Case Study Example This paper illustrates that the major role of having the operations management activities aligned properly in a business setup is to improve on the productivity and profitability of a business as these activities tend to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the production process. Every business should thus ensure proper organization of their operations management for improved productivity at reduced costs. The set of processes and activities involved in the creation and delivery of goods and services by transforming inputs to outputs is what is defined as operations management. The Case study is a description of the processes and activities involved in the harvesting and packaging of Lettuce and celery in the fields of Lincolnshire. These activities are performed manually in the fields by a number of personnel who play different roles in the process. A number of persons have been assigned the task of picking the products to form the gardens while others are involved in packag ing and labeling of the products for transportation to the different outlets. From the input transformation output model, the transformation is seen as any processes and activities involved in the conversion of different inputs into outputs that have added value. The products of the transformation process have more value designed to satisfy the customer's tastes and preferences as well as attracting more customers and thus profits. In the case study of Lettuce and celery harvesting, more value is added to the products by removing the unwanted parts and packaging into bags that improve the handling of the products by distributors and customers as well. This adds value to the products and thus fetching better prices for the products.

Discussion Question 1 Week 8 Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Discussion Question 1 Week 8 - Assignment Example People hardly noticed them, and in most of the cities, the police had the signs removed (MacMillan, 2007). In Boston, the advert took a bizarre turn where commuters and the residents mistook the signs as explosive devices. This caused a lot of havoc in the town. In reference to Lamb et al (2011), Cartoon network had failed to notify the residents and commuters about the prank. Structuring and sustaining relationships with an organization’s consumers are a fundamental aspect of public relations. Different types of advertising and creating awareness such as use of brochures, newsletters and press releases have been used to create and enhance relationships with the public. In promotion, an organization should not fail to plan. Promotion planning involves identifying a target market, making a budget and coming up with an appropriate advertisement. Cartoon network’s target market is the kids and the best way would have been to organize for a kid’s fun day or to come up with an audio visual advert that is appealing to kids. Promotion is an imperative aspect of an organization. Promotion aids in informing, influencing and persuading consumers’ purchase decision (Lamb et al., 2011). Different promotional strategies have different aims though they all seek to improve consumer demand. Pet Airways relies on the publicity of the owners, Binder and Wiesel, who featured in television shows, in addition to magazines and newspapers. These advertising tools helped create awareness of their company and the services they offer. Since there is no independent airline that transports pets alone, Pet airways got more publicity quickly. The discounts and other advantages for using the airline are another factor that substantially facilitates its expansion. However, increased publicity through sponsorships, advertising and public relations may enable the company serve more

Food Is More Than What We Eat Essay Example for Free

Food Is More Than What We Eat Essay The food we consume everyday has more to it than a source of fuel and part of our human essentials. Though we may not realise, food plays a part of many people’s culture, religion and even employment, where food plays a significant role in their everyday lives. Today, food serves a fairly major role in our society. Due to globalisation and other global factors, there has now been a mix and harmonious diversity in cultures around the world and food is one of the main evidence of that. This can just be seen by walking to your local stores where there are at least two or more food stores/ restaurants from different cultures. This is particularly evident in Australia, as immigrants from across the globe bring with them to Australia their cultures, beliefs and lifestyles to their new homes- with food being one of them. Many of these different cultures are now welcomed, accepted and shared, which provides employment for many people. This is not only evident in the Western continents, but many other Asian countries, where you would see many restaurants, snacks stores and street stores. Food is also used to distinguish the ‘classes of certain groups and/or areas. For example, in the city where there are more higher classed people, majority of the restaurants and cuisines tend to be a lot more expensive than those in the outer suburban areas. The functions of food in cultures vary between cultures, but majority of the time plays a significant role. There are different beliefs and morals, religious and food rules/ etiquettes that are associated with food of different cultures. An example of a food belief/moral would be in China noodles represent longevity, therefore it should not to be broken off or bitten off but put all into your mouth to chew to swallow. Food has not only been applied in beliefs and morals, but also religion. This can be seen in the Buddhism, where vegetarian dietary is preferred for serious believers. Sometimes food etiquette is incorporated into the religious side of food. For example in China it is considered extremely rude and impolite to stick your chopsticks upright in your rice as it is how it appears in funerals and is disrespectful to the elderly. The use of food in traditions and celebrations is another way to show how food has a deeper meaning that being sustenance. Traditions vary between cultures, but even families and individuals. Everyone has their own ‘style’ that they live with and pass on to their family who if they decide to continue the tradition passes on to future generations. Some of these traditions in terms of culture can be having rice has your main staple for most Asian cultures, while in Australia they have many different staples ranging from bread to grain foods. Food is also a big role player in celebrations. Many cultures have special foods that are only eaten or mostly eaten on certain days or events. For example in China on Chinese New Year, moon cakes are eaten, while in Australia, citizens have BBQs on Australia Day and eat ANZAC biscuits on ANZAC day. Food has also been a reason for unity of people. People like to eat whether it is at home or in restaurants in groups, where they not only enjoy the food together but can also start up conversations. For some families during dinner time may be the only time where they sit together and talk about their day. On a larger scale, food and global factors has allowed people of different backgrounds and cultures to accept and understand each other’s cultures. As previously mentioned, where we can now have food that are not from your culture. Because of food being eaten by many cultures, there are modifications to some foods so that more people can eat them. For example, there are now many vegetarian foods such as vegetarian pies and noodles for people with vegetarian diets.

Time Compression :: essays research papers

Thousands of years ago, Man created (discovered?) gunpowder. Sixty years ago, he discovered the power of the atom. Twenty-five years ago, computers were primarily tools of universities, large corporations and government agencies. Now a Personal Computer is commonplace in homes; suburban kids have computers with capabilities 100 fold of their corporate ancestors. The Internet was in a similar state not 10 years ago. It has grown so fast that now the original framework is bursting at the seams, no longer able to handle the needs of the burgeoning â€Å"Internet Community†. Technology and the world around us is moving at a breakneck speed, and it’s getting faster every second. These are examples of a theory known as Time Compression. Time compression is a simple theory, and it is one that I am in love with, as it effects us all on a day-to-day basis. Think of time as a physical presence that is constantly moving. As a physical thing, it has mass, weight, volume, etc. The longer it’s been moving, the more momentum it gains, the faster it goes. Be it technology, moral philosophies or social situations, we are affected by time compression in all facets of our lives. As we speed through our post-modern lifestyles, the increasing speed is becoming more apparent. Every day of our lives, something is being created, improved upon and appraised as no longer being relevant, and scrapped for something newer, faster and better to replace it. Whether this is good or bad is not terribly relevant. Change is one of the few constants. Progress has been occurring before man had a word for it. It’s been moving along at an ever-increasing velocity before man was, by today’s evolutionary standards, classifiable as Man. Even with this apparent truth, some try to grind their heels into the dirt, slow it down just a bit. Sometimes it works out. Thoreau. Sometimes it doesn’t. Unabomber. But regardless of the outcome, both suffer from the same symptom, a sort of desperate escapism. If you disregard all the nobler qualities that have been stacked upon Thoreau, he was a simple man living in a complex world, desperately afraid and unable to cop to his bewildering environment.

Advantages of a Web Presence

Advantages and disadvantages of a Web Presence The World Wide Web is a World Wide Market. It is a new way of selling. More and more customers expect to find your product news and specifications on the web. But even on the Net, you have to advertise your product. Using Internet as a media to advertise your product is different from traditional media. Through Internet companies can be present all over the world. Using the web as an advertising tool is the cheapest way to be discovered at every time. You can also quickly change your promotional campaign, in order to gain attention that may lead the consumer to the product. Online services become so popular because they provide two major benefits to potential buyers: Convenience: Customers can order products 24 hours a day wherever they are. They don't have to sit in traffic, find a parking space, and walk through countless aisles to find and examine goods. And they don't have to drive all the way to a store, only to find out that the desired product is out of stock. Information: Customers can find reams of comparative information about companies, products, and competitors without leaving their office or home. They can focus on objective criteria such as prices, quality, performance, and availability. Customers can expect the advantage to pull the information, to be drained into detailed catalog or other information about products and services for sale that they are looking for. They do not feel forced, they are looking for the information by themselves. Nevertheless it seems that Web advertising is much more price than image oriented. Web advertising does not seem the appropriate way to advert a product. According to BMRB International (annex 1) 37% of UK Net shoppers are not ready to purchase off-line They always fear to give their account number to a company they do not know. Today a well-known brand is a real competitive advantage. BRMB International has shown that 16% of purchases has done thanks to an implicit trust of established brands. Nevertheless it does not mean that it will stay an advantage in the future. Moreover the difference with more traditional media is that customers come to you and not you to the customers. You cannot retain their attention if they feel that it does not worth it. When you wish to expand your market share trough Internet, you have to consider the specificity of your target audience. At the present time people who buy through Internet are young, daily users of computers. But there are not only people used to Internet. Because e-business is growing up (annex 2), we can assume that most people have no experience in e-business. The audience can be both good Internet users and beginners. Dealing with communication interaction Security The World Wide Web is the fastest growing part of the Internet. Increasingly, it is also the part of the Internet that is the most vulnerable to attack. For users, a secure web server is one that will safeguard any personal information (bank account number) that is received or collected. It is one that supports their privacy and will not subvert browser to download viruses or other rogue programs onto their computer For a company, a secure web server is resistant to a determined attack over the Internet or from corporate insiders. In order to increase security, you can use a system for automatically encrypting information as it is sent over the Internet and decrypting it before it is used. One of Netscape Communication's early innovations was its SSL. You can also use firewalls, which is a device that isolates an organization's internal network from the Internet at large, allowing specific connections to pass and blocking others. Marketing / Communication It is really important to get people inform of the existence of your web site. You will have to shout it from the roof tops! You can use your letterhead, your cards or your leaflets to write your web address. You can also through a TV or board advertising campaign let people know about your site existence. As Jim Sterne says: your web site can be funny, pretty, useful, crisp and clean, but if you don't promote it, its message won't be seen. By the way you can also manage to register different key words on browsers in order to put make know your web site when people look for information in your business area. Deliveries and Payment If you use e-commerce on your website, once the buyer has searched through a catalog and made his decision to purchase, the order, the payment, the handle fulfillment and other aspects of order management have to be processed. The order processing must include the ability to group items together for later purchase; this capability is called a shopping cart in the case of retail transactions; it usually includes the ability to modify the contents of the shopping cart at any time. This way the buyer can discard items, add new ones, change the quantities and so on. To the purchase, the buyer will have additional charges such as sales taxes and shipping costs. The order processing system presents the buyer with an itemized order form including all the charges so the buyer can pay for the items. Information effect With the Internet, it is now possible to obtain accurate and immediate feedback from your customers (A daemon can count the number of hits). With access to this information, your business will be able to add the most personalized value to the customer. Tool such as the World Wide Web helps you to build more of your business decision-making based on outside information, and find out more about your non-customers and what non-customers and what they are doing, and why they are not customers. Fiscal and legal implications Internet is still largely unregulated. Because Internet is global (no territorial limits), electronic (no writing) and digital (perfect copies can be made almost instantaneously and repetitively), it is a source of different problems. The state of California tries to regulate e-business in California (annex 3). It seems very complex to set up a world wide regulation and, at the present time nobody knows what to do if something going wrong in the cyberspace. Concerning taxation, applying existing tax rules and system to the Internet world is tempting but does not answer to the needs of this marketplace. One key aspect to resolving the taxation issue of Internet commerce is to keep tax policies universal, uniform, and neutral. Resources needed to maintain the Site Obviously, resources need to maintain a web site is going to depend on the size of the web site. Whatever the size you firstly need to ask you few questions such as: Will this solution be flexible enough to accommodate change? Do we have the technical competencies to support Internet initiatives? Is this solution customizable to our needs and our customer needs? Do we have the technological infrastructure (network services; hardware, software) required to develop and scale? Do we have sufficient funding for ongoing web site maintenance? Do we have operations capabilities to support our Internet strategy? Web creation There are two different ways to create a web site. You can do it yourself or ask an agency to manage the creation of your web site. If you decide to create yourself your web site, you will need special coding software. But if you decide to delegate the creation to an agency, it might cost you around $750 for a basic web site (annex 4). Web maintenance However you must also take into consideration the maintenance. When you have created your web site, you must care to make it alive. You need to care about your human resources skills According to the Business Marketing Web Consortium the following roles should be filled:  · A Web Editor. Depending on the size of the site, this could be a part-time or a full-time person. The Web editor is responsible for content for a site.  · A Web Master, responsible for the infrastructure and technology supporting the website. Making sure that links link, and the site performs  · An Infomaster responsible for timely response to inquiries  · An overall Technology Leader, defining corporate standards and resources required Poor maintenance can severely damage a company's image Site Design and Structure As we have pointed out since the beginning, e-business is a new way of selling. When a potential customer gets connected to your site, you have not sell anything yet. There are different ways to attract customers to your product. Firstly, you need to care about your web design. It means that you should not forget that if there are too many pictures or electronic animations, download is going to take a while. If your site require downloading applications, they should downloaded in twenty seconds or less. Users of Internet expect fast and functional site (avoid horizontal scrolling). Web sites must be customers oriented rather than product oriented. Information value is much more important than glizz. Customers stay loyal because of the service, not because they like your web site. Simplicity and speed differentiate your site, making it easy for business customers to order. Secondly, Web marketers must ask if their markets are comfortable with English. Global marketers recommend adding local languages when needed. Thirdly, in order to maintain interest in your site, you have to make it interactive. Internet is both a business and communication tool, you must provide to users a page where you give relevant information on your product but also on your industry area. It is recommended to let customers express their feelings through email. But you do not do it only for the fun, your site must be professional (ie: updated, fast answers), that is why you have to deal with your e-customers as you are used to do with your offline customers. In order to support the design of your future web site, we would like to present this tree structure. There will be 7 theoretical pages linked together.

Short Story - 1670 Words

I walked up to the football registration table at the end of school orientation. Most people had left already so the place was pretty deserted. The small table was all the way in the back of the gym. The gym lights were off, but the table was illuminated by a single light above it. The black and dark green Eagles banner hung from the front of the table, creases in it from when it had been folded up for the off-season. The football coach and History teacher, Mr. McMann, looked up when he saw me walking toward the table. He smiled sweetly at me like I was a little girl that was lost. â€Å"What can I help you with, sweetheart?† â€Å"I would like to the tryout info for the football team, sir.† I looking at him making it clear I wasn’t messing around.†¦show more content†¦I bounced down the stairs and waved good-bye to Mom on my way out. â€Å"Have fun Taylor, and don’t get hurt!† Mom yelled after me. â€Å"Got it!† I threw my bag in the back and hopped in the front seat of Ryan’s bright-green Jeep, and it moaned at me when I sat down. Ryan rolled her eyes and smiled. â€Å"Stupid Jeep,† She mumbled. The car ride was boring, with bumpy country roads, and colorful trees lining the streets. â€Å"You nervous Taylor?† Ryan asked me, making me jump. â€Å"You’re awful quiet.† â€Å"What? Oh, yeah. Sorry,† I muttered, totally zoning as I stared out at the muddy roads of the country. Meanwhile, we pulled up to the football field. â€Å"Go get ‘em, Tay!!† Ryan whispered as she gave me a quick hug as I left. â€Å"You bet!! See ya!† I smiled at her as I walked to the gates. Oh yeah. Let’s GO!! I thought, pumping myself up for the tryout. Of course, when I stepped onto the field the only person there was Coach McMann. No players. So not only was it super awkward, but he kept glancing at me. I walked over to the bench and put my bag down, then walked over to Coach, figuring that I might as well break the awkward silence. â€Å"Need help with anything Coach?† I asked him, keeping my head high. â€Å"Oh, it’s you again. Greeeeat. If you even know what it is, go get the ladder out of my bag and put it up on the 25.
